Brasil
Since we saw so much on our trip to South America I thought I would start with Brasil. We first went to Sao Paulo where Matt served his mission. It was so neat seeing where he served, but it was really sad because he served mostly in very poor areas called favelas. We couldn't get out and walk because it would be too dangerous, but we drove through the area and I couldn't believe how small and cramped the houses are with little winding alleys between these little shacks. Matt said that the government had actually paved some of the roads and improved the area a little because of Brasils economy so that was good to hear. Its crazy, Matt talked about seeing little kids so happy to be playing soccer in the street with a two liter bottle, and how it reminds us of all the things that we have, but how a lot of us are still not happy. Sao Paulo is also one of the worlds largest cities with something like 25 million people. We went up to the top of this tall building to get a view of the city and there was this really nice restaurant at the top that we decided to eat at, but it was really funny cause we were both in shorts and tee-shirts and the matradee looked at us like we were crazy that we wanted to eat there. It was so cool though, we had a 180 degree view of continuous skyscrapers. Here is a picture of it.
Next we went to Rio de Janiero which is amazing. It has beautiful soft sand beaches, big green steep peaks in the middle of skyscrapers. Then we went up to the statue of the Christ that overlooks the city, which they blindfold during their carnival celebration, and got a view of the city. We also saw a soccer game in the Macana stadium, which is one of the biggest in the world, once cramming in 200,000 people. The game was as intense as the fans and it was way more enjoyable than a Real Salt Lake game mainly because they were always being agressive with tons of shots on goal.
After Rio, we headed to Iguazu Falls which was so cool. There is a big part that is amazing, but then probably 40 other smaller to medium sized waterfalls in the area. Even after seeing amazing waterfalls in New Zealand, this one blew them out of the water, literally.
