Are Sports Ever Really Going to Be Fair?

The past week Matt has basically been pacing around the house waiting to see what would happen in college football. He checked the internet before we would leave and would check it the second we got home. It was pretty humorous. And when it was finally announced that Utah was going to the Pac-10 yesterday he was so excited.
On the other hand, me as a rival BYU fan went through the first wave of jealously, and then while listening to sports radio they started talking about why Utah was picked over other schools. Some of the obvious reasons are that the Salt Lake City TV market is ranked 31 in the US and Boise isn't even in the top 50, they are close to the conference and of course the BCS bowl wins. As far as BYU not being considered, they honestly probably won't ever be considered for top conferences because they can't play on Sunday and recruiting will always be limited because of the Honor Code. But with Boise joining the Mountain West I think the conference will still be good.
The next thing that came to mind is if the push for a playoff system is dead. Utah was one of the 2 BCS busters with Boise State and now that they are in the BCS will they still care? It is great for Utah, but I can't help but thinking they are sell-outs. My friend posted this video on You tube about the situation, and he's right, it's like George Bailey taking a job for Mr. Potter. Sure, everyone is against the BCS until they are in it. When the Pac-10 announced Colorado was going to join they talked about them being a good athletic fit. What a crock, Denver is TV market 16 and Boulder has been horrible the last few years. Its all about money and the biggest TV markets. Are sports ever really going to be fair?
